random stuff I like and about me

I gave up WHAT for Lent…?

Its food, Food, FOOD!  I have been gaining weight again and Lent seemed like a good time as any. So I decided to give up food (solid food) for all but once a week for 4 weeks. Then I will slowly add one meal a day for a week and then for the next two weeks it will be 2 healthy meals a day.

In addition to food I also gave up my Google Reader. It consumes about an hour a day and while it give me some great information I think that I would like to see if I can get by without it.

So between not eating and giving up my rss’ I should have about 2 more hours a day to work with. Lets see how long I can keep it up. As my wife said when I told her that I was giving up food, “you better not disappoint God.” I’ll do my best.

’til later

Change…Again

change

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change. ” ~Charles Darwin

“If you don’t like change, you’re going to like irrelevance even less.” ~General Eric Shinseki

“To exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly”. ~Henri Bergson

“If we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, we are not really living.” ~Gail Sheehy

Well, it happened again.  Change.  When they say that the only thing that is constant is change, they aren’t kidding.  For the second time in my IT career I have been laid off (wonder if someone is trying to give me a hint?)  While some people might see this as devastating, I prefer to look at it as an opportunity to do things that I have been putting off due to time constraints or even the complacency of getting a paycheck.  That being said, getting laid off is not all fun and games.  The clock is ticking; there are bills to pay and responsibilities to my family.  There are people that most likely I will never see again and things that I may never do again… but more importantly there are new experiences, there are future opportunities for chance meetings with old friends and co-workers, whom for some reason seem to get closer to you the longer you have been away.

At this point I would like to thank all my coworkers whom I will be leaving, for the experiences and growth that I have had with all of you.  As with each time I have moved on from a job I will remember the good time more vividly and the “difficult” times less.  I will miss all of you and wish you all the best of luck in all your future endeavors.  I look for forward to our future chance meetings, but until then, goodbye for now.

Please feel free to drop me an email or give me a call.

Rainbow Cake

I saw this cake on a blog called The Omnomicon via the Kitchn and we decided to try to make it for my daughters Girl Scouts group.  It was our turn to bring the snack.

Plain Cake

Basically, you just take a white cake mix, split it into equal parts (except for the bottom color, use 2/3 of the mix for that color) and add bunches of food color gel.

Let the Color Begin

Then pour the colors into the pan, one on top of the next and then bake as according to the box.

Colorful Goo

…let cake cool …frost cake… clean up

Rainbow Cake

Cut and eat!!!
